A beautiful eyebrow shape plays a very important role in the face, and the ideal eyebrow position is determined by several parameters. Ptosis (drooping) of the eyebrows is a consequence of the biological aging process.
A patient with eyebrow ptosis usually appears angry or older than their chronological age. If the drooping is very pronounced, it can also cause visual field disturbances, so a browlift not only improves appearance, but also function.
Browlift surgery is an outpatient procedure and is usually performed under local, rarely general anesthesia. Surgical techniques for lifting the brow arches have undergone numerous changes in the last ten years. Before this period, the only known technique for lifting the brow arches was performed through the so-called open approach, i.e. through an incision in the scalp that ran across the entire scalp from one ear to the other. In the last decade, there has been a rapid development of techniques, which have become less invasive, especially with the introduction of the endoscope. All of them have in common the excision of the skin and fixation of the brow arches in a better position. This can also be achieved to some extent with specially designed suspension threads that are used to lift the soft tissues.
A temporary brow lift can also be performed by precise injection of botulinum toxin (chemical brow lift). Swelling and bruising are transiently visible after surgery. The swelling quickly decreases with cooling in the first few days after surgery, and the bruising disappears within fourteen days. The stitches are usually removed after a week.
After the procedure, the surgical wounds will be sutured, a protective ointment will be applied over them, and patches will be applied on top.
Until the wounds have healed: 3 days after the surgery, you can gently wash your hair with a mild shampoo without perfumes (e.g. baby shampoo). We recommend using a mild shampoo until the wounds have healed, which is usually 2-3 weeks after the surgery. During this time, you should also avoid using any makeup on the operated area. For 4 weeks after the surgery, do not dye your hair, do not blow-dry, do not perm your hair, and do not use any products that remain on your hair (hairspray, mousse, gel, etc.).
To cover the effects of the surgery and protect yourself from the discomfort of light, you can wear sunglasses after the surgery. Do not forget to bring them with you to the medical center. Good wound healing also depends largely on you. You can positively influence it by resting and adjusting your activities, taking proper care, eating a proper diet, and abstaining from smoking for at least 4 weeks before the surgery and at least 2 weeks after the surgery.
